About the Department
Plants are the resources of many human requirements like food, medicine, fibre, furniture etc. Therefore, study of Botany and its allied branches is very significant for sustainable life. The Botany department had come into existence in the Year 1964 offering Allied Courses for U.G. Zoology Programme. Well-equipped Laboratory facilities are available to the learners. The department library has nearly 53 Books for learners use. The learners get opportunities of field visit like mushroom cultivation farm, vermicomposting industry, herbal preparation industry and other related areas. The department offers Mushroom Cultivation as Value Added Certificate Course. Prof. L. George Joseph, M.Sc., M.Phil was the first Faculty and appointed as Lecturer on 13.08.1964. He served 35 years and retired as Head, Dept. of Botany & Principal on 31.05.1999. Then Mr. M.Muthumari, M.SC., M.Phil., B.Ed., was appointed as Lecturer on 13.03.2000. He was nominated as Head on 16 th February 2009. He received his Doctoral Degree in Botany in the year 2018 and continuing his service as Associate Professor & Head till date.
