Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)
Internal assessment is based on the continuous evaluation of performance of the students in each semester. Internal mark is awarded to each Programme in accordance with the following guidelines.
Internal marks for those students (UG, PG and M.Phil.) who repeat the Semester (RS) for want of attendance should be marked “AA” in the foil card.
There is no minimum pass for internal marks for UG, PG and M.Phil.
No internal improvement is allowed.
Special Internal Assessment tests may be permitted on genuine reasons with the approval of the HOD, Dean & Principal before the summative examinations.
1. Mode of Assessment:
The mode of assessment of the performance of students in UG, PG and M.Phil Programmes shall be both on the basis of Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and End-of-Semester (EOS)
(a) The ratio of CIA to the EOS is 25:75 in all theory papers of all UG, PG and M.Phil Programmes unless otherwise specifically exempted by the Academic Council.
(b) In case of practicals / lab Programmes / field study / self-study projects, research projects in both UG and PG programmes, the formative lab shall be 40% and Summative will be 40% weightage, unless otherwise specific modification(s) are proposed by concerned Board of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.
(c) In case of dissertations and research projects in M.Phil programmes, the ration between CIA and EOS Assessments shall be 50:50.
(d) For all Programmes falling under the category of Co-curricular activities, the ratio between Continuous and End-of-Semester Assessments shall be 25:75 for theory papers and 40:60 for practical papers.
Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) :
There shall be different methods of CIA like Assignments, Quizzes, Tests, Viva-Voce exams and other innovative methods as found suitable and prescribed by the Boards of Studies and approved by the Academic Council from time to time. However, following are the rules in force.
(a) In all the theory Programmes in the Undergraduate programmes there shall be two objective quizzes of 10 minutes duration with 5 maximum marks each, two written tests of 1-hour duration with 30 maximum marks each and a minimum of two assignments with 5 maximum marks each., the remaining 5 marks will be awarded on the basis of some Other Components like
(i) Class-room Interaction ( Maximum 1 mark)
(ii) Class Attendance ( Maximum 1 mark)
(iii) Participation in Seminars, Conferences and Workshops ( Maximum 1 mark)
(iv) Participation in Educational Tour and Field Trip organized by the respective Departments ( Maximum 1 mark)
(v) Participation in Cultural Activities ( Maximum 1 mark)
The ratio between the Written Tests, Objective Quizzes, Assignments and Other Components shall be 10:5:5:5.
(b) Generally, for all the theory papers in PG programmes and M.Phil programmes, the CIA shall be made by conducting two written tests of 2-hours duration each, two Quizzes / Seminars and two Written Assignments. The ratio between these components shall be 10:5:5:5. Any specific change in the pattern shall be recommended by the respective Board of Studies and specific approval obtained from the Academic Council.
3. Re-assessment under continuous Internal Assessment:
(a) Students are required without fail to take every test/assignment/quiz/seminar/objective test/viva voce exam under the CIA. However, those who are absent for WT-1 & Q-I , or WT-II & Q-II, or both will have to make use of WT-III & Q-III by registration,. Hence, there is not provision for re-test / re-quiz.
4. Conduct of the Continuous Assessment:
All the Written Test, Quizzes, Assignments, Seminars, Objective Tests etc., pertaining to the CIA shall be conducted within the stipulated time period as announced in the official schedule.
(a) The Written Tests and Quizzes, the components of the CIA for the Undergraduate Programmes, shall be centrally organized and conducted by the Dean-in-charge for CIA and his/her office shall fix specific schedule indicating time and venue for each Programme.
(b) In the case of both PG and M.Phil programmes, the practice of administering the CIA in the respective departments shall be continued. However, the departments shall strictly adhere to the officially announced schedule.
(c) The Programme Teachers shall value the answer scripts after the conduct of each test/assignment/quiz under the CIA within a week and return the scripts/papers to the students after making entries.
